Scriptural Reflection 2 January 2023
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, amen. Scriptural Reflection for the 2nd of January, 2023. Today God teaches us through Scripture for us to be faithful to Him in His fullness, that means as the Triune God and as our Lord Jesus Christ. How may we be faithful? As St John the Baptist is the model for us, it is to recognize our own creaturehood before God. It is written that the antichrist is he who denies both the Son and the Father, that is denying the Trinity. By denying God, the antichrist makes himself to be God. I interpret this all as God teaching us to be humble.
I saw humility in
these readings as I have had problems with pride and egoism. I know I am still
not completely humble because I can still perceive some problems of pride and
ego within me. I am not here to do a complete exegesis of the readings, but
simply to reveal the moral sense of Scripture as I understand it and as our
Lord guides me. I cannot give tips to be humble because I myself do not know
how to be humble. Yet I have heard that humility does not mean thinking less of
ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less, and as such thinking more about God
and others. As such, humility begins with the intellect, with our mind and
inner life. Then it flows into action. One of my strategies is by recognizing
that whatever good we have is ultimately of God and all evil is of creation
itself which rebels against God. By reminding ourselves of that simple truth,
we may be moved towards humility. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and
to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end, amen.
