The Philosophical Framework
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, amen. As mentioned in the previous text, there are previous ideas from past writings which are necessary for the beginning of philosophy. These ideas are as follows: That there is such a thing as goodness. That goodness exists within reality. That there is such a thing as reality. That there is such a thing as existence. That it is necessary to study the more fundamental properties of any object first before we can study the particular properties of that object. By this reasoning, since the properties of reality are more fundamental to the properties of goodness, we ought to study reality first in general, or reality as reality.
Therefore, the first
task of philosophy is to study reality and only when we have an adequate
understanding of reality do we study goodness. How do we study reality? We
first observe what is true, and then infer from those truths what else has to
be true about reality. This too is a new foundational idea, the idea of truth.
Truth is simply any idea which is aligned with reality. For example, the
statement, “There is a person in my house,” is true because that is the
reality. On the other hand, “There is a cat in my house,” is false because the opposite
is true, there is no cat in my house. The second foundational idea is how we
discover truth, that is by observation or by inference.
With this brief
establishment, we have a simple but effective philosophical framework on how to
proceed with this matter. That is we study reality first prior to goodness with
the reason that it is necessary to study the general properties of an object
first before we study the particular properties of the object. Meanwhile, reality
is more general than goodness, therefore, reality must be studied before
goodness. This text shall act as an establishment to the actual process of
philosophical discovery. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the
Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world
without end, amen.
