Natural Revelation of Necessary Presuppositional Framework

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, amen. By the grace of God I write and investigate these matters to uncover what God has always naturally revealed to us. The ideal path of investigating natural revelation is to have no assumptions or presuppositions, but it does not have to be that way. There are many ways of investigating natural revelation, and what is important is that the Truth is revealed, and the Truth is of course God Himself. As such, we begin with the presupposition of God, that all things are revealed by God for all things are a grace of God as they are created by God.

However, the method that I shall be using is a crude method of using my own faulty reasoning to begin with a presuppositional emptiness. What is presuppositional emptiness? It is a made up term to describe a state of truth where existing presuppositions are suspended to create an emptiness of presuppositions, hence the idea of presuppositional emptiness. However, even the vast emptiness of presuppositions, there are still some necessary presuppositions which are needed to lead to further discoveries of natural revelation. As you may have observed, natural revelation itself is a necessary presupposition. There always has to be a set framework of what we are doing in general to be able to actually do something.

These frameworks are what I call necesssary presuppositional frameworks, or NPF. There are various kinds of NPFs and I have done many in the past. There is the NPF of Truth, the NPF of Structure, the NPF of Goodness, the NPF of Metaphysics, and now we have the NPF of Natural Revelation. The NPF of Natural Revelation declares that the endeavor we are doing here are based upon God. As such, God is part of the NPF. The NPF of Natural Revelation also states that all things created by God are thus a revelation by God that can point to Himself, the ultimate Reality of things. However, the NPF seeks to eventually be a platform where itself can be proven, by itself. How does that work? Aren’t circular arguments fallacious? Not at the foundation.

As such, what else is included in this NPF? The Natural Revelation NPF has to be unpacked. In Natural Revelation, we seek to discover the truths of God and thus of Reality as a whole. Therefore the goal of Natural Revelation is to discover truth according to the natural capacities of human reason with the aid of divine grace. So we have the presupposition of truth, that there is such a thing as truth, but that too has to be proven. However, due to the fact that we have a minimal amount of presuppositions since the beginning, we have to generate new presuppositions and they become part of the NPF quickly. Then, when things settle down by epistemic justification, the NPF ceases to be a presupposition as presuppositions are assumptions to base ideas before justification. After justification there is no presupposition.

The next presupposition to be generated is the idea of justification itself. As of now, we have no way of justifying any idea at all. The idea of justification itself has to be justified. That is the idea that ideas have to be justified at all. In order to justify justification, we must understand precisely what is justification. Justification is the idea that in order to believe something, we must have justification, or another idea supporting the truth of that something. There can be a more technical and complex explanation, but that suffices for now. We are aiming for minimal presuppositions after all.

So why do we require the idea of justification, what justifies justification? Here we must generate another set of presuppositions which is as follows. There are 2 ways an idea is justified, by direct justification or indirect justification. Direct justification is when an idea is justified by direct contact with reality. Indirect justification is when an idea is justified by another idea which is either directly justified or itself still indirectly justified. From this idea we have more presuppositions, that there is such a thing as ideas, reality, contact with reality, and that there is a thing which contains those ideas and has contact with reality, often called “us” or a subject.

 Now we see that when attempting to work through any idea, there is already a ton of presuppositions which are necesssary just to begin work. This is precisely what the NPF is, a necessary set of presuppositions which forms a framework of discovering natural revelation, what God has revealed to us through the natural world as we can perceive using our natural reason. Returning to the idea of justification. Justification is necessary as ideas must be grounded on reality to be believed in, and so while ideas justified from direct contact can be believed in immediately, other ideas which are indirectly justified cannot be believed in immediately, rather it must be established that those ideas have a traceable chain of justification where it terminates in reality itself.

This carries itself with the presupposition of why is there a must, an obligation to any of this at all. So we arrive at the presupposition of goodness. There is an obligation to do things as man has desire towards goodness. Obligation is simply the fact that there are necessary conditions towards man’s goodness, and so to speak man is obliged to fulfill those conditions if they want to attain goodness. Then, we have to discover why justification is obliged. It is obliged because truth is obliged. We exist within reality. We must work according to what reality is in order to attain goodness, otherwise we will fail. This is a fundamental presupposition, and in order to work according to what reality is, we must be able to have knowledge and thus truth of reality. Thus truth is obligatory.

I believe we have reached a sufficient NPF to begin work. We have the presupposition of Natural Revelation, the greatest framework, next we have the presuppositions of truth, justification, goodness, obligation, reality, contact with reality, subject, and idea. In the next writing we will begin discovering certain truths which are proven from the NPF, and we will seek to prove the inner contents of the NPF as well.
