Philosophical Fun 3
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, amen. My God, I have come to clarify and perfect that great and holy argument for your Holy Existence. I pray to You that You accept my offering of argument and explanation for the argument. I shall include this as Philosophical Fun, as indeed I am playing with You still. I know I sinned and I am not that worthy to play with You, but I recognized that it is for my own good that I play with You, o God.
The argument for Your
Existence
1. Existence exists.
2. Existence exists necessarily as there will
always be at least one thing which exists.
3. That which is necessary must be simple.
4. All composite objects can be non-existent as
they can be separated and thus cease to exist, thus all composite objects are
contingent.
5. Therefore, a necessary object cannot possible
be composite, otherwise it would lead to a contradiction.
6. The simple object is unlimited by any other
parts, properties, essences, attributes, or objects. For it is solely itself.
7. The necessary, simple, and infinite existence
is known to be God.
8. Therefore, God exists.
Now I shall explain
this argument in prose form. When I say existence exists, it is proven by our
basic awareness and experience. When I say existence, I mean the great category
of existence, which will always be filled by a member of existence, either
something exists or the object of non-existence exists within the category of
existence. As existence always exists whatever its members are, it is then
necessary. Yet the necessary existence has to be simple precisely because it is
necessary. If it is not simple, there is a logical possibility of it not
existing because of its separation in actuality, thus destroying its existence.
The simple and necessary existence must also be infinite, as it has no other
objects limiting itself. This necessary, simple, and infinite existence is
known to be God, therefore God exists. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end, amen.
