Reflection on Philosophy and Natural Revelation
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, amen. I wish to reflect on the philosophical act or journey, or precisely the journey of Natural Revelation. What is Revelation? I have said once, that Revelation is simply whatever God gives to us, that means the entire universe which He created. This entire universe is created not for our eternal enjoyment, rather it is created to be brought back to God and united with Him, including us. We are here and we are given all graces and revelation to lead us back to God and be united to Him.
Some philosophy is
useful, in so far they lead us back to God and help us get back to God. Such
philosophy is precisely useful because they cooperate with theology that is Supernatural
Revelation. Any philosophy divorced from theology I would dare say to be a
delusion instead of any philosophy. For true Wisdom (Sophia) is God and Christ
alone. Therefore philosophy divorced from God cannot be philosophy at all, it
is a plain contradiction in terms. Yet there are still parts of philosophy
which are useless, in the sense that they do not necessarily lead us back to
God even if they are true and are of God. Yet they are still here for our enjoyment
and for our goodness.
Since God does not do
anything arbitrarily, that He is Perfectly Sufficient Reason, we must infer
that whatever God gives us and allows us to know, can be used for our greater
sanctification and thus goodness in heaven. What in our eyes are not directly
useful in attaining God, might truly be useful in ways only God knows. As long
as a thing is not dangerous in leading us away from God, then we are free to engage
in it according to our own conscience. Therefore, philosophical problems which
seem useless to engage in might actually be good for us in the eyes of God. If they
are wholly useless, God would have directed us away from it or even declare it to
be a sin. Yet He never did that.
This reflection is
meant to be an exposition on what I plan to do, that is write commentaries on
various philosophical works either primary sources or secondary and tertiary
sources to develop my own understanding of the Truth, that is God. All truths
of the world share some resemblance to the Truth that is God, and so it is my
hope that by studying the world we can develop a deeper and more intimate
understanding of God. Moreover, the knowledge of God is the final end of union
with God, therefore it is the highest good and it is in a sense “not useful”
for anything else, because it is the very object to which other things are useful
for.
I have written up a
plan on what I plan to do with my life in general in a writing titled “Life
Management”, but I will elaborate on my philosophical plans. I plan on commenting
or responding to first, the Introduction to Philosophy Course from the
University of Edinburg. I plan on commenting on every work which is posted
there and so I will extract as much understanding as I can from those works. Then
I will look over to a discord server named “The Philosophy Chat” and extract
their works as well. In the end, when all sources have been exhausted, I will
form my own system of thought and unite that with Supernatural Revelation. That
is the very ending of my work, if it can be done in this life that is. That is
all, the next writing shall comment on the course. Glory be to the Father, and
to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and
ever shall be, world without end, amen.
